At Floor Coverings International, we love bringing you insight and perspectives from designers. Today, we have an interview with Kathy Passarette, designer and blogger at Creative Home Expressions.

Floor Coverings International: Can you tell me a little about yourself?

Kathy Passarette: I am married for 29 1/2 years, a Mom to two adult children, and a “LaLa” to my beautiful granddaughter. For the past three years, my husband and I live in Ohio, after living our whole lives in New York. I love decorating, crafting, creating and repurposing.

FCI: Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

KP: I started my blog originally as a counterpart to my interior decorating business. I started reading other decorating blogs and liked how a more personal touch was introduced and so started to let
more of my personal self come through in my blog. I enjoy sharing projects I’ve worked on, sometimes sharing the process so others can see that it is something they could do as well.

FCI: What are some of your design inspirations?

KP: Where decorating magazines like Romantic Homes and Better Homes & Gardens used to provide all my design inspiration, there are some very beautiful blogger homes
out there that are wonderful design inspiration now. Pinterest is another venue for finding design inspiration. I also like to look through catalogs.

FCI: How would you describe your design style?

KP: My current style has a French Country influence. I like simple, classic, warm, and inviting to come across in my home. No matter how I’ve decorated my homes over the years, “country” has
always been a part of my décor in one way or another.

FCI: Tell me about a recent project that you’re especially proud of.

KP: I seem to be proud of whatever project I have currently finished! Right now it is a pair of shutters I
picked up at an antique mall and made over with paint and some wood embellishments. One project that I will always feel proud of was a small dresser I found on the side of the road a few years ago and gave a new
purpose. It was missing two drawers and was badly in need of some loving. I used baskets to replace the missing drawers.
